DAMA Warrnambool – a great program to tackle labour shortages in Victoria’s Great South Coast region

The GSC region includes the Local Government areas of Glenelg Shire, Southern Grampians Shire, Moyne Shire, Corangamite Shire, Colac-Otway Shire and Warrnambool City Council.

The GSC DAMA enables the region’s employers sponsor skilled and semi-skilled Overseas Workers for specified positions they are unable to fill with local workers.

The DAMA program utilises the labour agreement stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482).

Employers enter into a Labour Agreement with the Australian Government and workers are then eligible to be considered for a subclass 482 visa.

The DAR Endorsement and Labour Agreement Request Process

  1. Conduct LMT (Labour Market testing)
  2. Employers interested in a Labour Agreement under the DAMA must first be endorsed by the Designated Area Representative (DAR).
  3. If the employer is endorsed, the DAR will provide a Letter of Endorsement to the employer and the Department of Home Affairs. The Warrnambool City Council is fulfilling the role of the DAR for the GSC DAMA.
  4. The endorsed employer may then apply for a DAMA Labour Agreement.
  5. If the labour agreement is approved, the employer may then apply for the subclass 482 nomination.
  6. Once the 482 nomination is approved, the visa applicant can lodge the subclass 482 visa application under the DAMA Labour agreement.

The DAMA program is an employer-sponsored program and individual workers cannot apply independently.

Employers interested in seeking to sponsor skilled and semi-skilled Overseas Workers for eligible occupations, under the Great South Coast DAMA, are encouraged to firstly review their eligibility for participation and to discuss their proposal with a registered migration agent.
