Skilled visa and migration quota 2022-23 program year in Australia
The general skilled migration quota for the 2022-23 program year overall has increased from 20,000-30,000 places since the May budget.
This is good news for Australia’s skilled migration program.
Apart from South Australia, other States and Territories are also gradually reopening their skilled migration state nomination programs for the 2002-23 year, providing more opportunities to qualify for a skilled visa to Australia.
New South Wales skilled visa and migration quota
Applications for the Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa are currently closed. The program will commence shortly however no timeframe has been provided.
Applications for the Subclass 190 Skilled (Nominated) visa are currently open.
Applications for the Subclass 188 Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa are currently closed.
NSW has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 4,870 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 7,160 places
- BIIP: 260 places
Victoria skilled visa and migration quota
Applications for the Subclass 491 and 190 visas are currently open.
Applications for the Subclass 188 visa are currently closed.
VIC has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 2,400 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 9,000 places
- BIIP: 170 places
Queensland skilled visa and migration quota
Applications for the Subclass 491 and 190 visas are currently open.
Applications for the Subclass 188 visa are currently open.
QLD has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 1,200 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 3,000 places
- BIIP: 235 places
South Australia skilled visa and migration quota
Skilled and Business Migration South Australia has announced that nomination applications for the 2022-23 program year will open soon.
South Australia has received an interim allocation of nomination places and is in the process of finalising state nomination requirements for the Skilled & Business Migration programs.
Information on the opening of these programs will be published soon.
SA has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 3,180 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 2,700 places
- BIIP: 70 places
Western Australia skilled visa and migration quota
Applications for the Subclass 491 and 190 visas are currently open.
Applications for the Subclass 188 visa are currently open.
WA has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 2,790 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 5,350 places
- BIIP: 40 places
Northern Territory
Applications for the Subclass 491 and 190 visa are currently open.
Applications for the Subclass 188 visa are currently closed. The new criteria for Northern Territory nomination under the BIIP are currently being worked on.
NT has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 840 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 600 places
- BIIP: 15 places
Australian Capital Territory skilled visa and migration quota
Applications for the Subclass 491 and 190 visas are currently open.
Applications for the Subclass 188 visa are currently open.
ACT has received the following interim allocations for 2022-23:
- Subclass 491 visa: 1,920 places
- Subclass 190 visa: 800 places
- BIIP: 10 places
Tasmania skilled visa and migration quota
Applications for the Subclass 491 and 190 visas are currently restricted.
The Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program will open progressively in phases over the coming weeks.
The initial phase will include successful candidates ‘held over’ from the 2021-22 year as well as the selection, invitation and nomination of candidates in the Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles pathway.
Candidates currently residing overseas who are interested in Tasmanian nomination should ensure their Skillselect EOIs are up-to-date and reflect the profiles published on the Migration Tasmania website.
The second phase will open the program to high-priority ‘Gold Pass’ and ‘Green Pass’ applicants.
The final phase will open the program to registrations of interest from all eligible candidates.
