Australian Visitor and Tourist Visa Types Explained

Australia provides a wide variety of visitor visas, each tailored to serve specific needs. There are also working holiday visas for those looking to explore the country while working to fund their Australian holiday. These can be segmented into three primary categories:

In addition, there are several specialised subsets within the visitor visas that cater to unique circumstances. Similarly, there are different types of working holiday visas based on the applicant’s country of passport, age, previous visa history and work experience.

At Visa Lounge, we’re committed to helping you understand and choose the right visitor visa for your needs, whether they align with the above or something different.

Each visa category comes with unique requirements and eligibility criteria. At Visa Lounge, we take the complexity out of these processes, providing personalised assistance for each visa type, including the Working Holiday Visa Subclass 417 and Work and Holiday Visa Subclass 462.

The term “visitor visa” is an overarching descriptor that encapsulates various immigration procedures and regulations, while “working holiday visas” offer the opportunity for temporary employment in Australia. Our strength lies in our deep understanding of these procedures, drawing upon years of expertise to align you with the visitor or working holiday visa best suited to your specific needs.

Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)

The Visitor Visa Subclass 600 is a versatile visa designed for various purposes such as tourism, visiting family or business activities. You can stay in Australia for up to 3, 6 or 12 months based on the granted terms of your visa. To be eligible, applicants need to demonstrate their intent as genuine visitors and must have sufficient funds to support their stay. Below we have detailed the various streams available for a visitor visa application:

Similar to the Tourist Stream (apply in Australia), this stream lets you enjoy Australia’s attractions or visit family and friends, but you must be outside Australia when you apply and when your application is decided.

Sponsored Family Stream:

If you have family in Australia willing to sponsor your visit, this visa lets you stay for up to 12 months. Your sponsor might be asked to pay a security bond and you must be outside Australia when you apply and when your application is decided.

Business Visitor Stream:

For business reasons, this visa allows you to stay for up to 3 months. You can make a short visit for business-related activities, excluding work or selling goods or services. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when your application is decided.

Approved Destination Status Stream:

eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651)

A low-cost visa option is the eVisitor Visa Subclass 651, which allows you to visit Australia as often as you wish within a 12-month period for stays up to 3 months each time. The visa is free and processing times are quick. With this visa, you can visit family or friends, go on a holiday or a cruise, and undertake business visitor activities.
