Queensland Skilled Migration Program 2023-24 is open
Queensland is open! We have been waiting for Queensland Skilled Migration program to open for some time and finally state nominations for subclass 190 and subclass 491 are now available for potential candidates.
There are 900 places for Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa and 650 places for Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Subclass 491 Visa.
It is important to note that the sate of Queensland will accept NEW applications ONLY, lodged from 5 September 2023 and the first round of invitations will be at the end of September 2023.
Note: Updated EOI (Expression of Interest) lodged prior to 5 September 2023 will not be considered!
Queensland Skilled Migration Occupation Lists
The QSOL, Queensland Skilled Occupation List, is available to applicants from overseas ONLY and states that the prospective applicant must have at least 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
For onshore applicants, the relevant list is still the STSOL Short Term Skilled Occupations List and any occupation can be nominated.
Queensland Skilled Migration Program Requirements
What are the Queensland Skilled Migration requirements for overseas applicants?
For candidates for visa SC190:
- Department’s general requirements
- A minimum of 75 points (no less than 70 for trades occupations ANZSCO code 3*****)
- Occupation from the QSOL list eligible for the 190 visa pathway
- Competent English (or higher if required for licensing/certification)
- At the time of the invitation, the candidate must be employed in the nominated occupation.
- Application fee of 300 AUD, payable after receiving an invitation
For candidates for visa SC491:
- Department’s general requirements
- A minimum of 65 points
- Occupation from the QSOL list eligible for the 491 visa pathway
- Competent English (or higher if required for licensing/certification)
- At the time of the invitation, the candidate must be employed in the nominated profession.
- Application fee of 300 AUD, payable after receiving an invitation
What are the Queensland Skilled Migration requirements for applicants in Australia?
For candidates for visa SC190:
- Department’s general requirements
- A minimum of 75 points (no less than 70 for trades occupations ANZSCO code 3*****)
- Any occupation from the SOL, Short-term Skilled Occupation List eligiblee for 190 visa
- Competent English (or higher if required for licensing/certification)
- Reside and work full-time (at least 30 hours per week) in Queensland in the nominated or related occupation for a minimum of 3 months before submitting the EOI.
- At the time of EOI processing, the candidate must still be employed in the nominated occupation and have a contract for the next 12 months.
- Application fee of 330 AUD, payable after receiving an invitation
For candidates for visa SC491:
- Department’s general requirements
- A minimum of 65 points
- Any occupation from the SOL, Regional Occupation List, eligible for 491 visa
- Competent English (or higher if required for licensing/certification)
- Reside and work full-time (at least 30 hours per week) in regional Queensland in the in the nominated or related occupation at the time of EOI submission.
- At the time of EOI processing, the candidate must still be employed in the nominated occupation and have a contract for the next 6 months.
- Application fee of 330 AUD, payable after receiving an invitation.
Are there any exemptions?
Yes, for applicants in Australia:
- Accountants (General) – Only applicants employed in an accounting firm or a medium or larger sized business will receive an invitation. For this purpose, a medium sized business is characterised as a business that employs 20 people or more. They must be a CPA, CA or IPA, or are studying towards becoming a CPA, CA or IPA.
- Internal and External Auditors must have a job as an Auditor (not an Accountant).
- Cooks and Chefs – no takeaway or fast-food business employment will be considered.
- If you are employed through a labour hire provider, the provider must be licensed to operate in Queensland under the Labour Hire Licensing Act 2017, and you will need to provide relevant evidence.
Are you a graduate?
Requirements for graduates in Australia
- Department’s general requirements
- Successful 100% completion of the University of Queensland within the last 2 years
- For visa SC190: a minimum of 75 points, reside in the state, and any occupation from the SOL, Short-term Skilled Occupation List eligible for 190 visa
- For visa SC491: a minimum of 65 points, residence in regional Queensland, and any occupation from SOL, Regional Occupation List eligible for 491 visa
- For PhD and doctoral graduates – employment is not required
- For STEM or agricultural master’s graduates – full-time employment (at least 30 hours per week) in the nominated occupation or in any occupation ANZSCO level 1
- For other master’s and bachelor’s graduates – GPA of 6.0 for visa 190 and 5.0 for visa 491 + full-time employment (at least 30 hours per week) in the nominated occupation or ANZSCO level 1
